In Calgary, Coby Harasyn, small business owner of Alberta T-shirt supply, complains that she doesn’t have enough time to meet with other entrepreneurs. She isn’t the only one among small business owners. TD Canada Trust state that “43% of Calgary small business owners work more than 60 hours a week compared to the national average of 38%.” The problem is that small business owners are doing so many jobs at once that they don’t have time to develop a good business plan. This causes the business to not grow and expand in other places. As a result, small business owners should spend their time wisely to other aspect of business. Another problem for small business owners is that they want to see immediate results. Networking is not about seeking new customs, although that does occur. The real goal of networking is to meet, it could lead to a contact for a good lawyer, accountant or even skilled workers. Many small business owners only wants to meet larger business players and ignores other small businesses. But thats not the case small business owners can work together too. For example small business owners can host monthly events together. But most of them said their schedule is too hectic. Ultimately, most small business owners should mix businesses together and take these relationships and flourish to the next level.

I agree that small businesses should gradually build their way up to compete with bigger businesses. I think they shouldn't expect fast results and to take time to think of a good plan to help their business expand and grow. Since small business owners work long hours and trying to complete everything at once, why won't small business owners hire more employees?

I disagree with the article when they state that small businesses should mix businesses together to get to the next level. Although doing this would allow for the businesses to go to the next level, it would defeat the idea of running your own business. You would be working with a group of other entrepreneurs and that could eventually become a corporation/partnership. If it were to remain a small business, store owners should write out a detailed and organized business plan as well as realize that their start-up may or may not be resulting in profits.
ReplyDeleteWell in my opinion, i think that small business owners should be shining a little light on other aspects of being an entrepreneur. As it is quite usual that businesses don't take become successful initially, as it takes tiem to develop a gradual business plan that works. Expanding their relationships would gradually open up a different aspect towards their ever changing business plan.

To Anna,
ReplyDeleteI think that the reason small business owners don't hire employees is that they don't have enough money to pay salary. It is also time consuming to train an employee which they have. So I believe that hiring an employee won't help small business owners.

ReplyDeleteYes, i do think that small business owner should think for long term successes, and expand their relations with others. Instead of chasing after initial successes.
I think that businesses should not only work with large companies but also small companies. Entrepreneurs can not always look at the profits they can make in short-term. Successful entrepreneurs look at everything in long-term and short term. I believed that many companies do not make billions of money in one day,and most of the companies build up their funds and profits slowly by working with small businesses.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I totally agree with this article because as a small business, you need to really expand your connections and popularity by getting involved with larger businesses.Doing this will not only expand the entrepreneur's knowledge but it will also provide them with new techniques and tips of how to make their business more successful. As this article mentions, they do have to keep one major thing in mind that they can't expect the result of their actions instantly.Growing a business never occurs over night ,as it needs to pass long successful periods in the market , for which the owner of the business has to maintain patience and positive attitude.
ReplyDeletei think the business should make a business plan before starting on anything else. They should also take their time doing the job since it takes a long time to develop the business and make a profit

I think that these small businesses should take more time to carefully plan out what they should do so it is not so hectic. It also guarantees a higher chance of success. It is a good idea for small businesses to work with each other because they are all going through similar problems.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the article about small businesses should be getting invloved with larger businesses. To do so, you should start of by working with small businesses so you can gain some experience and work your way up.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with the article because I think the main purpose is to start out small and work your way up into something bigger. My opinion is that if you start your own business venture, you should take all responsibilities of the business, (ie. a strong business plan).
ReplyDeleteI agree with what Ashley said above. When you decide to put many small businesses together to form one large group, it usually ends up being a corporation, and defeats the purpose of owning and running your own company. Although forming this large group will help each and every one of the small businesses, there will come a time when one business or one individual wants to be the leader of the entire group. That will lead to many other problems; it just adds even more pressure to each business owner to have to deal with everyday operations and the problems with the connection between one small business to another. I think more trouble is being made when small businesses come together to form one giant corporation.

ReplyDeleteI’m all in for what you have to say. I definitely do agree with you with the benefits of collaborating with large businesses and companies but I also think that if they were to do so then they’d need to thoroughly analyze which businesses they might be thinking of mixing with. For example, they wouldn’t want to tie with a large company that may over power the small business or make it seem like the large business is just helping the out the small business just to make their company look good. All I’m saying is that if businesses were to mix there should be a balance on both business intentions of any event taking place together. Having events that include benefiting both parties, because helping out small businesses shouldn’t be seen as a charity fund, it may make small businesses look bad.
